I recently completed the 80,000 word manuscript of my new book, Lost Worlds, written in Mellel from start to finish. When I started, the crucial aspects of RTF export were still in development, but the Mellel team promised they'd be ready shortly before my deadline. I trusted them — Man Trusts Software Developer Shock — because the alternative was working in Word. They met their deadline. And I met mine. The software was a pleasure to use. Each day I fired up Mellel with happy anticipation. It never crashed once. And instead of spending up to 25% of my time cossetting my WP and wondering, not whether, but when, it would screw up (as was the case with Word) I was able to get on with my work. Footnotes, endnotes and bibliography (with the beautifully-integrated Bookends) worked perfectly. The final export to RTF, which my publishers required, was smooth as silk. Mellel has all the features you need. You can focus on writing while Mellel does the work in the background. It is extremely helpful for scientific texts to have Bookends included.

I enjoy and appreciate software with 'pizzazz'. In the world of the Macintosh Classic environment, the word processor with pizzazz was Nisus Writer.
Today in the world of OS X it is without a doubt Mellel.

For the academic writer, no programme comes even close to Mellel for sheer elegance and making writing a pleasurable activity. Where most word-processors feel like a machine for cranking out text, Mellel gives you a space to write and just the right, subtle ways to make this easier. As someone who writes constantly, I need the best possible program, something that gets me close to the text and enables me to work without the interface getting in the way. For me, Mellel is that program. A marvelous piece of software.

I'm not a power user of Mellel yet, since I've only been using it a couple of months and have little need for languages other than English. I chose Mellel for its excellent response in Mac OS X, ease of use, and how well I can customize documents for the formats I use in my hobbies and personal business. That said, one of the very impressive areas for me is the active user group and the outstanding support you offer your users. It reminds me of how "it used to be" with users and developers working hand in hand to create practical and technically elegant solutions to every day problems.
